Having frequented Market St. in Corning often these past few weeks, many of the restaurants I discuss here will probably be located here. Another wonderful eatery I discovered (with the help of a wonderful friend) is Aniello's Pizzeria.
First and foremost, when you walk into this pizza joint, the first thing you will notice is the aroma. Now, I know what you are thinking: All pizza joints smell yummy, and I agree, they do. This place, however, had a wonderfully spicy and very Italian aroma. It immediately made my stomach growl. In my life, I have been to many a pizza place, and this one certainly held up. I am a firm believer that if a pizza joint can't produce a wonderful, yet simple cheese pizza, then there is no way that their specialty pizzas will be up to par either, given that the cheese pizza is the basis for all others. When ordering, I took this theory into consideration, and ordered a plain cheese pizza to split with my friend. This particular Pizzeria specializes in the New York Style Thin Crust Pizza, which is my personal favorite. The cheese pizza I ate at Aniello's was one of the best I have had. The crust was just the right thickness, and was crispy without being brittle. A good pizza has to have a good crust, and this one did. In addition to the super tasty crust, Aniello's also used a good blend of cheeses to get a smooth, non-chewy, cheese cover. The sauce contained what most good pizza sauces do; a tomato base, and a blend of spices. The spices used in this sauce made it tangy, without being overpowering. I am generally not a huge fan of sauce, but this sauce was wonderful.
In addition to having a variety of pizza's available, Aniello's also have other "typical" Italian foods (lasagna, stuffed shells, spaghetti, calzones, etc.), and a plethora of sandwiches and subs to choose from. Everything that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. For the quality of the food, the price was extremely reasonable. Though there was minimal staff interaction (Aniello's is more of a self service type-place) the staff that I did encounter were very friendly. All in all, this was a wonderful restaurant to eat at, and I would happily return for seconds. If you are ever in the Corning, NY area, and want a quick, reasonably priced, and tasty place to eat, I would highly recommend checking out Aniello's Pizzeria.
