Having frequented Market St. in Corning often these past few weeks, many of the restaurants I discuss here will probably be located here. Another wonderful eatery I discovered (with the help of a wonderful friend) is Aniello's Pizzeria.
First and foremost, when you walk into this pizza joint, the first thing you will notice is the aroma. Now, I know what you are thinking: All pizza joints smell yummy, and I agree, they do. This place, however, had a wonderfully spicy and very Italian aroma. It immediately made my stomach growl. In my life, I have been to many a pizza place, and this one certainly held up. I am a firm believer that if a pizza joint can't produce a wonderful, yet simple cheese pizza, then there is no way that their specialty pizzas will be up to par either, given that the cheese pizza is the basis for all others. When ordering, I took this theory into consideration, and ordered a plain cheese pizza to split with my friend. This particular Pizzeria specializes in the New York Style Thin Crust Pizza, which is my personal favorite. The cheese pizza I ate at Aniello's was one of the best I have had. The crust was just the right thickness, and was crispy without being brittle. A good pizza has to have a good crust, and this one did. In addition to the super tasty crust, Aniello's also used a good blend of cheeses to get a smooth, non-chewy, cheese cover. The sauce contained what most good pizza sauces do; a tomato base, and a blend of spices. The spices used in this sauce made it tangy, without being overpowering. I am generally not a huge fan of sauce, but this sauce was wonderful.
In addition to having a variety of pizza's available, Aniello's also have other "typical" Italian foods (lasagna, stuffed shells, spaghetti, calzones, etc.), and a plethora of sandwiches and subs to choose from. Everything that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. For the quality of the food, the price was extremely reasonable. Though there was minimal staff interaction (Aniello's is more of a self service type-place) the staff that I did encounter were very friendly. All in all, this was a wonderful restaurant to eat at, and I would happily return for seconds. If you are ever in the Corning, NY area, and want a quick, reasonably priced, and tasty place to eat, I would highly recommend checking out Aniello's Pizzeria.

Poppleton Pastries
Recently, I've been spending quite a bit of time in Corning, New York, and, with the help of a friend, discovered some wonderful new eateries that I feel are worth writing about. First and foremost is Poppleton Pastries, a fantastic and intriguing bakery/cafe duo. It is located on Market St. in Corning, and is just one of many small businesses that has taken root there.
One of the first things you notice when walking into Poppleton is the decor. It is a chic place, decorated in mostly black and white with splashes of pink throughout. Another defining feature is that of the chalkboard art hung around the interior. Many of these boards contained humorous sayings that instantly lifted my spirits. "Stop in and get sconed," and "Diets are overrated" were two of my personal favorites. The combination of hand drawn chalkboards with the sleek black and white interior and random bursts of bright pink was a great combination.
If the interior wasn't enough to have you intrigued, the food will be. Poppleton boasts some of the most delicious looking and smelling pastries that I have ever encountered (and trust me, I have encountered many). In addition, I indulged in two different types of cake while I was there. Both were unbelievably delicious. If the cake and pastries weren't enough to have you drooling, Poppleton is also home to a grilled cheese bar. With 8 different varieties of grilled cheese sandwiches available, the grilled cheese bar quickly became one of my favorite features of the establishment. And still, if even all of that is not enough to entice you, Poppleton had one more gem that I happened to discover: A hot chocolate bar. Yes, that's right folks, you can get a variety of hot chocolates at Poppleton too. Everything I tried at Poppleton Pastries was delicious, and reasonably priced as well.
With a winning combination of delicious goodies, great service, reasonable prices, and fun-filled decor, this is certainly one eatery I will be going back to. There is simply no way to try everything you want to try on the first trip. If you are ever in the Corning area, make sure to stop and visit Poppleton Pastries on your way through. I can assure you you will not regret a single minute of it.
